Track management at Shangri-La II Motorspeedway is going about the business of awakening their concrete high banked half mile speedway from its winter slumber. Part of that awakening is renewing relationships which were in place during the previous season and setting up the schedule of competition.  Shangri-La II (or S-2 as it is affectionately known) has added a practice session to their 2012 schedule. The added practice session is set for Saturday May 5th running from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. “We had just one practice session on the schedule” stated track manager, Amy Stilson. “Opening weekend is going to be jam packed at the speedway with the Al Robinson Benefit leading off the activity on Friday May 11th.  The only practice that was scheduled was for May 12th – the day before the season opener. We wanted to give the teams more time to get their cars dialed in, and for the drivers to get their timing back”.  The track has added two new four cylinder stock divisions which will run weekly for 2012 as well as brought back full powered tour type modified racing for six events. The added practice session takes place just two weeks before the season opener for the Race of Champions Modified Tour which will make three stops at Shangri-La II this season.  Shangri-La II Motorspeedway also announced this week that the facility will once again be an ASA Member track for the fourth consecutive season.
Shangri-La II Motorspeedway officially kicks off their fourth consecutive season of competition on May 11 – 13, 2011 as they host a benefit for long time race official, Al Robinson. Robinson, the track’s PR Director as well as co-announcer suffered a stroke on May 11, 2011 and has been in a long tern rehabilitation facility since. The speedway is donating their facility and property for an overnight family camping event with all proceeds going to assist Al Robinson with his mounting financial difficulties brought about by the stoke. The Benefit runs from 4:00pm on Friday May 11th until 12:00 noon on Saturday May 12th. Practice will begin at 2:00 on May 12th and run until 6:00 pm.  The season opening “Mother’s Day Madness” will take place on Sunday May 13th featuring Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Stocks, Four Cylinder Junior Stocks and EST Trucks. Pit Gates open at 12:00 noon on May 13th with Grandstand gates opening at 1:30 pm. The 2012 season takes its first green flag at 3:00 pm.
