The fourth season of competition at “The Concrete Castle” concluded with the successful running of the Fall Brawl. There were many challenges to that late September day, but with the racers, teams, officials and fans all pulling together everyone saw some great racing action. The final twenty five laps of the RoC Modified feature were some of the finest anyone saw all year long. Jimmy Zacharias held off the hot challenges of Matt Hirschman and Chuck Hossfeld for his first ever RoC Modified feature win as the trio ran those final laps inches apart and three wide at times.  The Street Stocks evolved into a “Must See” event every week. Lee Sharpsteen, Jeff Goodwin and Chris Zacharias always seemed to find each other on the track, and when they did – the sparks started flying. Jeff Goodwin persevered and claimed his first title at Shangri-La II. The competition was stout throughout the entire street stock field. The “Young Guns” of Zack Curren, Tyler Rypkema and Mikayla Rypkema came into their own in 2012 with sixteen year old Tyler picking up a win and two runner up finishes. The Rypkema’s had an “Ace” as their hold card. The pair had veteran Tony Hanbury as their team mate and mentor. Hanbury collected three wins. 2012 Sportsman champion, John Wilber finally found Victory Lane at Shangri-La II picking up the win on July 14th. In addition to claiming one win, Wilber had a lock on the runner-up spot collecting nine second place finishes on his way to the championship. The other end of the Sportsman spectrum was occupied by the former champion, Jimmy Zacharias who only competed in ten Sportsman events collecting a staggering nine wins and a third place finish. The Late Models saw a battle of the big men as 2009 Champion Jim Lamoreaux (who lost the 2011 title by two points) claimed his second Late Model Championship at Shangri-La II by four points over Jerry Dineen. Dineen had three wins compared to two by Lamoreaux in a classic Chevy vs Ford rivalry all season long. While Lamoreaux and his number 37 Chervrolet are the 2012 champions, Dineen and his Shufelts Towing and Recovery number 11 Ford Mustang set a new Track Record in the Late Model division and he set that record on September 23rd with a lap at 18.205 sec 98.874 mph. He broke how own track record lap set back on September 11, 2010 which was 18.303 sec 98.345 mph. Jody Buckley set the fastest Sportsman lap for the 2012 season on June 16th with a lap time of 18.010 sec, 99.944 mph. Chris Zacharias had the fastest Street Stock speed in 2012 at 20.558 sec, 87.557 mph. Jim Storace clocked the fastest Modified speed of the season on July 14th at 17.278 sec, 104.179 mph, but the overall Fastest Lap ever at Shangri-La II was run by Jo Jo Helberg from the Must See Xtreme Sprint Cars on July 5th. Helberg’s lap was an astounding 14.243 sec, 126.378 mph around the concrete half mile.
