7/4/09 - Paules and Lamoreaux Forever Cemented In History

Earl Paules and Jim Lamoreaux both won final events held at TIOGA Motorsports Park in 2005. On Saturday, July 4th, Paules (Mighty Modifieds) and Lamoreaux (ASA Late Models) made history by winning the first feature events The New Shangri-La II Motor Speedway, an ASA sanctioned track in front of a near sellout crowd. Rick Zacharias won the Sportsman Modifieds, AJay Potrzebowski won the Street Stocks and Jeff Moorehouse took the Cup Lites.

In Mighty Modified action, Ted Christopher and Paules lead the field to the green flag. Christopher lead the first lap but Paules stayed on the charge and passed Christopher coming out of turn 3 on lap 2. Paules opened up a lead over Christopher until the caution came out on lap 24 when Chris Zacharias spun on the back straight. Christopher pitted under the yellow. When the green went back out Paules continued to lead but the man on the move was Christopher as it only took him 5 laps to get back to 2nd. Paules had a 3 car length advantage over Christopher until a spin by John Markovic on lap 38 brought out the caution. This caution set up a double file restart and a 10 lap shootout. Christopher stayed right on the rear of Paules and tried to set him up for a late race pass on the inside of turn 3 but it wasn’t enough. Earl Paules made history and claimed the first ever Mighty Modified feature event at Shangri-La II . Christopher finished 2nd, John Markovic finished 3rd, Jimmy Zacharias finished 4th and Daren Scherer rounded out the top 5. Earl Paules and Jimmy Zacharias won the 2 heats.

The ASA Late Models was an exciting 35 lap feature event. Joe Brown and Bill Catania took the field to the green flag. Jim Lamoreaux started 3rd and charged right to front on lap one. Lamoreaux and Catania battled for laps and Catania tried to passed the leader off turn 4 but spun on lap 14. Lamoreaux and Ben Reynolds took the field back to the green but the caution came right back out as Reynolds spun off 2. When the field went back green Lamoreaux and Catania were at it again but the wild card Travis Fisher was in the mix this time. Fisher moved Catania and passed him with 3 laps to go. Jim Lamoreaux led all 35 laps to win the first ever ASA Late Model event held at the speedway. Lamoreaux won the afternoons heat race.

racers2_070409Rick Zacharias won the 40 lap feature event for Sportsman Modifieds after Earl Paules failed post race tech inspection. Jimmy Zacharias was second ahead of John Markovic, Justin Petcosky and Tom Shiner.

AJay Potrzebowski was declared the winner of the Street Stock 30 lap feature after Jay Mudra, who pulled away and led the entire event and 2nd place Dan Cascioli, failed post race tech inspection. Chad McDonald was credited with 2nd and Frank Chapman rounded out the top 3.

The Cup Lites had a caution filled 35 lap feature event. Mark Hoch and Gary Walker lead the field to the green flag. Hoch lead the opening laps but was passed by Jeff Moorehouse on the back straight on lap 10. The first caution came out on lap 8 as Chris Bosch hit the wall off turn 4. The caution came out for debris on lap 19. The green was back out on lap 20 but was short lived as Gary Walker hit the wall in turn 4. Moorehouse lead the field back to the green and Scott Wylie was on the charge looking to get around Moorehouse. The final caution came out on lap 28 when Mark Hoch spun off turn 2. Moorehouse went on to score the win over Scott Wylie and Dan Tybor.
