FOUR WEEKS UNTIL BENEFIT FOR ROBINSON
Click here for event details and schedule. The countdown is now less than four weeks until the Benefit for Al Robinson takes center stage at Shangri-La II Motorspeedway. The two day event takes place on May 11-12, 2012 at Shangri-La II Motorspeedway in Tioga Center, NY. A special section has been added to the Shangri-La II website for updated information and schedule of events. The link is located under the "Schedule" tab. The tentative schedule of events has Team Registration for a Charity Track Walk. Teams are encouraged to raise money based upon a money per laps walked method similar to the Relay for Life. Teams will be issued a transponder and using the track's AMB Timing and Scoring system, their official laps will be counted and the total amounts pledged will be calculated. Pace Car and Race Car rides will be available on Friday night and Saturday morning. Kids activities will run continuously throughout the event. Friday night highlights will include a Charity Auction of the donated items with auctioneer, John Whitmore. A Bon Fire, Red Solo Cup Challenge and an event which is an official (unofficial) part of Race of Champions weekend - Down Hill Races coordinated and run by Chris Zacharias. In addition to the "Live" auction, there will be a Chinese Auction with tickets sold starting at 5:00 pm on Friday and the winners drawn at 11:00 am on Saturday. Awards will be handed out for best Tent / Camp / Pit displays.
"The donations are continuing to come in to the Spalding Foundation" reports Spalding Foundation Director, Betty Sherwood. "We have been sending back the charitable donation paperwork to the donors. We are still looking for items from race teams and drivers for both the Live and Chinese Auctions from racers competing on the local and national levels." Items received this past week include a body quarter panel donated from New Hampshire Motorspeedway. The quarter panel was from Juan Pablo Montoya's Lysol car and is autographed by Juan Montoya. A ticket package from Pocono Raceway for their June Sprint Cup event was received. The tickets are for the Bistro Terrace and are valued at over $ 600.00. Four official programs from Las Vegas Motorspeedway, a pair of tickets to the May Modified event at Thompson International Speedway and a ticket package from Joe Skotnicki at DirtCar valued at over $800.00. Cash donations were received from the employees at Dover International Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Allen Bestwick and Bestwick Talents, Rod Spalding, Marty Little, Lawrence Dye Joe Jennings, Jim Donnelly and a fellow "race chaser" Bill Cornell.
