Four in a row!!! Enough is enough, is the phrase being heard around the "Concrete Castle". With race teams coming into the pits, and fans beginning to come through the gates, everyone braced themselves for a 45 minute deluge of rain, thunder, lightning and high wind. Once the storm passed, the sun tried to break through the clouds, and the track began to dry nicely. There were a few spots where the ground water was weeping across the track, but wait a minute – hold the happiness. Here came more light sprinkles of rain. The drivers were asked to go to the tech barn to meet with the track and decide what to do. The drivers gave some ideas, but Mother Nature had ideas of her own as another downpour forced the cancellation of the program. "We need to get some races in. It's just that simple" said a dejected track manager, Amy Stilson. "We went for it today, and it just didn't work out. We had people coming in, food cooking in the concessions and employees and teams eager to go racing. We are exploring a lot of alternatives right now including running some Sunday shows in addition to the scheduled Saturday races. We might run some double point's shows, double features shows or even run a double feature each for one of the classes on a rotational basis. We are talking with the teams to see what would work out for them before we make any announcements". With the rain out, fans that had paid their admission for Saturday night need to bring their wrist bands back and they will be admitted to Sundays show. The Tobias SpeedSTR's will stick around and be back at the track on Sunday. The Burnin' Rubber Night to benefit Traci's Hope will be re-scheduled to a later date.

Several new concession items will be available at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway in 2011.

Leading the list of new menu selections are Red Osier roast beef sandwiches, a product of the Rochester-area steakhouse well known at stadiums throughout New York State. Corn dogs and pulled pork also join the menu and all items will be available throughout the Saturday night racing season at the Concrete Castle, which begins May 28.

On the track, opening day, Sunday, May 15, headlines the first race of the 2011 Race of Champions Modified Series, a 100 lap shootout which shapes up as the premier paved track race in the northeast that weekend. The RoC Series features all green flag racing with caution laps not counting, so fans will see all the laps of racing they paid for. Defending winner Chuck Hossfeld and three-time series champion Matt Hirschman lead a talented field into action.

Shangri-La II's regular classes – Sportsman Modifieds, ASA Late Models, and Street Stocks - are on the program as well. One lucky fan will leave with an unprecedented 50-50 jackpot, as last year's RoC 50-50 was never claimed, and its $1,000 plus has been carried over to seed the first 50-50 of the new year.

Pit gates open at 10:00 a.m. on May 15 and grandstand gates at 11:00 a.m. Practice runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There are no time trials, so the first heat rolls off the line at 1:00 p.m.

Shangri-La II Motor Speedway and the Race of Champions Modified Series open their 2011 schedules together on Sunday afternoon, May 15, with the "Return of the RoC'n Concrete Rumble". Last year the event was the biggest in the short history of the Concrete Castle and this year's renewal should be even more spectacular.

In 2010, the feature distance was 75 green flag laps, and for 2011 that has been boosted to 100 laps. Last year the 50-50 jackpot reached over $1,000 but was unclaimed and carried over to the second RoC event scheduled, which was rained out twice. That stack of cash will be the seed money for the 50-50 on May 15; in other words, the jackpot will be over $1,000 before the first ticket is sold on May 15 and it could double on race day.

The drivers who duelled for the checkered flag in 2010, Pete Brittain, who led most of the way, and eventual winner Chuck Hossfeld, are expected to return along with three-time defending RoC series champion Matt Hirschman and a field that should rival the 30-car turnout from 2010. A free date on the calendars of other modified touring series could bring contenders from New England to challenge the Race of Champions regulars.

"It should be a great way to kick off the 2011 season," said track manager Amy Stilson, who reminded fans that Shangri-La II will race every week on Saturday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day with the exception of June 16, when the weekly program will be on Thursday, and July 22-24, when the track will close in support of the 61st annual Sunoco Race of Champions at Oswego Speedway.

The pit gate opens on May 15 at 10:00 a.m. with grandstands set to open at 11:00 a.m. and racing at 1:00 p.m. The Sportsman Modifieds, ASA Late Models, and Street Stocks are on the program in a preview of their Saturday night attraction as well. Open practice for all classes is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 13-14.
