Change Is All Around As The Race Of Champions Tour Returns To Shangri-La II Motor Speedway On Sunday, August 1; Night Racing And 100-lap Distance Pose New Challenges To The Touring Professionals
The Race of Champions Tour, the premier paved track modified series in New York State, makes it second appearance of 2010 at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway on Sunday night, August 1. It's titled "Return of te ROC'n Concrete Rumble" but that doesn't mean it's the same show that thrilled a packed house back in May.
As part of the RoC Championship Series, the distance has increased from 75 green flag laps to a full 100 laps around the high banks of the half-mile Concrete Castle. And unlike the May event that was run on a hot, sunny afternoon, the return performance will be under the lights.
Pete Brittain lead until he was passed by Chuck Hossfeld with a dozen laps remaining in the RoC debut race. The veteran from Oakhurst, N.J. sees the need for adjustment to the new conditions, but not radical change to the strategy that came so close to giving him victory in Shangri-La II's first touring series race.
Matt Parsons of Elmira has won the Grand Prize in the Shangri-La II Motor Speedway Pocono Ticket Sweepstakes- two reserved seat tickets plus overnight accommodations for the Sunoco Red Cross 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race this Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
Shangri-La II Motor Speedway celebrates its first birthday along with our nation's birthday by presenting the Great American Classic this Saturday and Sunday, July 3-4, with racing at 5:00 p.m. each day. Saturday's lineup shows the Modifieds racing 35 laps, Street Stocks 20 laps, and the debut of the Allison Legacy Series North over a 15-lap distance. Sunday the ASA Late Models are featured for 30 laps, Sportsman Modifieds for 25 laps, Super Stocks for 20 laps, and the popular INEX Legends for 15 laps.
